Haven't seen any highlights but watching it live and althoug we were pretty rubbish I thought we should of had three stonewall pens one on noble and two on Moses anyone seen these on the box?

Im sure at times we were playing a 3-5-1-1,

Once they got past our midfield we were very exposed in the positions were our fullbacks should have been.

Maybe just a bad day at the office
Perhaps the kick up the arse we needed in order to get the focus for sat

seems to be we have difficulty playing against teams that play the same way we do against the big teams .

Yes a problem we need to solve.

Re: Leicester v West Ham - Official Match Thread 2-1 FT
Even though it feels like we are reading too much into it the reality is that we only changed a few players from out 1st team and Leciester changed 10 or so.

So I'm slightly worried we had to hold on like we did. I'm also worried that there are only 4 teams in the league that will never sit back at home, arsenal, man city, liverpool and man utd.

So everyone else is going to do whatever they think is the best to beat us and that will be stopping us from counter attacking by sitting back.

Hopefully we can work this out, but I can see bad things happening here.

And yes, our corners and crosses were poor.

Re: Leicester v West Ham - Official Match Thread 2-1 FT
I thought we were poor and Leicester easily deserved their win.

It was strange, as we were the away team, but yet played like the the home team, even though our strength is counter attacking. Maybe the early goal conceded changed our game plan ?

I wonder how Slav will solve the problem of teams getting behind the ball.

I felt more urgency was needed last night, and if we're going to be the team 'getting on the ball' then we need to commit a few more numbers forward. We needed more runners beyond our striker. Too often we got into decent positions, then got crowded out in the final third.

Also unsure how Leicester managed to find players in space so easily.

Thought Collins did OK seeing as he hasn't played much, but he gave the ball away too cheaply at times and it was one of these passes that gave them possession in the run up to their winner.

Did anyone else think that our crosses and corners last night were absolutely dogshit? Hitting first man or way to heavy everytime

something we were great with last season

Cunter attacking?

I thought we were even stevens and then in extra time we were mostly thinking about Norwich.
Losing is always a twat and losing like that even more so but in general it wasn't too bad.

Unlike you to read far too much into a game of football, Alf?

Basically, now we've mastered beating the best teams, if we do what everyone thinks we should when teams sit back, we'll never lose another game, and we'll win the league.

It's proper easy when you think about it.

Amazing that we created so little and conceded so many key chances, given these great performances people saw from players in our team.

Re: Leicester v West Ham - Official Match Thread 2-1 FT
The challenge this game highlighted is how we deal with teams who set up as we do in a counter attacking mode. Raneri again told his players to get behind the ball and close the space everytime we got into their half. He was happy to let us have a lot of possession and use the counter attack to get men forwards. It was very effective. ALthough we had a ton of possession (60 -70%?) they created the vast majority of the clear chances and almost all of them in extra time when we clearly tired.

Raneri outthought Slav again.

We did not have the movement upfront that a Sakho and/or Valencia provide to play more of a possession game IMO. We actually should have resorted to more of teh BFS plan ironically with direct balls up to Carroll. But Carroll was clearly a way off full fitness so we were kind of stuck. We relied on the quick feet of Lanzini, Moses and Zarate to open them up and it was not that effective. Teh ref gave us little protection and that is me trying to be as unbias as possible.

It is the biggest puzzle/problem to solve for Slav. How are we going to open up teams who will come to UP and even at their home grounds, like Leicester, will sit back with 9 or 10 behind teh ball.

Like I say, I think we moved the ball too slowly to stretch them and that was partially down to Carroll's immobility up top but also our inability to play at speed in midfield too. Arsenal achieve this (although again not alwasy successfully) by using Oxlaide Chamberlein, Cazorla, Wilshire, Sanchez etc. in a very mobile midfield come attacking unit. We do not have that calibre of player across the park and our slower build up is easier to defend when teams press the space and sit deep.

Bilic and his coaching staff ill be helped once Valencia is back and Sakho is available but it is what is IMHO likely to decide whether we finish in the upper reaches of the table or more of a mid table outfit as more teams will employ the Leicester approach against us to stop us cunter attacking. The idea will be to let West Ham have it as they are less effective.

Of course, if Carroll gets fit again and can get off the ground, we can always switch to the BFS direct style to overcome teams like Leicester. It aint as pretty but knock downs toPayet, Moses, Lanzini would possibly reap dividiends?

In terms of individuals last night, I thought aside from Adrian that Obiang had a great game.

Thought noble was immense last night.

Weirdly we seemed to struggle because we had so much possession and werent really playing much on the counter. Lanzini, payet, zarate an even noble played some great football in the middle but there never seem to be anyone to aim for the box after carroll went off.

Re: Leicester v West Ham - Official Match Thread 2-1 FT
Collins poor? OMG really?

Was best outfield player for us, Adrian was superb as others have said.

Played the better footbally during the 90 altho they may have had the better chances. Want to see a few of the penalty shouts again but i have a feeling at least 1 of them was.

Preferred Moses out wide than down the middle.

Payet looked lively when he came on but then Lanzini drifted out the game a bit.

Extra time they were by far the better side and we did look a bit jaded, maybe the City game took a lot of of us (understandably). Altho we did have a great chance if Kouyate had squared it properly and then Noble's effort just went over.

Ref was awful I felt, the game was too big for him. Gave countless poor decisions including a couple of free kicks for us.

Also the 17 was lucky to stay on the pitch having been booked then doing a tackle very similar to what Pedro was booked for.

Ah well, i wanted a run in this but it wasnt to be, muct beat Norwich at weekend.
